Children Join the Storytelling Tradition

It’s happening right now. Children in Madison County are thinking of stories. They are remembering, creating, and reenvisioning stories of their past or of someone else’s past. They are forming their own stories to submit to this year’s 3rd Annual Madison County Florida’s Tellabration!TM. We have invited children from all over the county to participate. They may submit their stories (in written form) by October 15. Then some of the best storytellers will be selected to tell their story at the Tellabration!TM on November 19 at O’Toole’s Herb Farm.

Our past tellers have thoroughly enjoyed their experience. Here is what some of them have said:

liberty-blairLiberty Blair
 – “Being a part of Tellabration and Youthful Voices was a fun and unique experience that I will always remember. It was also great to meet other storytellers who encouraged me. Most of all, it was so exciting to tell my story to others and make them laugh and smile.”

cr-paintCaleb Raines – “I thought the Tellabration was a very fun experience! I was very nervous about telling my story in front of a lot of people at first, but Ms. Wanda Violet told me some things I could do to overcome my fear. She was a very good teacher. It made me feel good that so many people clapped for me. It was a lot of fun!”

mb-paintMattie Anne Barnes – “The Tellabration was a great experience. Being a Teller for the Tellabration boosted my confidence and encouraged me to continue writing stories. The Tellabration was fun as well; I got to hear interesting stories by other Tellers. I would encourage other youth to participate in the Tellabration and share the amazing stories of their own with the people of Madison County.”

Some of our youth tellers have gone on to win storytelling scholarships to study and perform at the Florida Storytelling Association’s Festival in Mt. Dora.

If you know of a student in Madison County who would like to submit a story, have him or her call Wanda for details. This is such a great opportunity for our children. Join us November 19th and cheer these tellers on!
